The HT1000 however is a brick of aluminum wrapped in plastic that can be used as an impact weapon if need be. Haven't used it much because my $200 AnyTone 878 is a great radio, it feels at least as good as the Moto commercial units I've used, not quite up to Moto public safety radios in terms of toughness, but seems to be good quality. With 16 channels I had it programmed with 13 repeaters in my area and three simplex channels, to include the calling freq. The first thing I bought was an older HT1000 for 2m. Recently licensed myself but long time public safety user. Vertex is the Yaesu commercial/public safety line I believe and some of them, as well as some Kenwood radios, can be programmed via CHIRP. The website is ancient and you have to use internet explorer. You would have to pay Motorola for it and last time I checked on MOL (Motorola Online) it was $300 odd for a 3 year license, like others have said.
